Asus ROG Strix G18 featuring Intel’s i9-13980HX and Nvidia’s RTX 4080 dGPU blows competing laptops out of the water with unbeatable US$2,499.99 launch price

Asus ROG Strix G18 featuring Intel’s i9-13980HX and Nvidia’s RTX 4080 dGPU blows competing laptops out of the water with unbeatable US,499.99 launch price

BestBuy has the Asus ROG Strix G18 gaming laptop on sale proper now for US$2,4999.99. The configuration consists of the most powerful cellular processor from Intel’s Raptor Lake-HX sequence – the i9-13980HX – coupled with 16 GB of DDR5-4800 RAM and a 1 TB PCIe 4. NVMe SSD as well as the Nvidia RTX 4080 mobile GPU with 12 GB VRAM. Granted, it is not just a discount, but as opposed to other similar configurations from competing OEMs, this is by considerably the most very affordable.

For reference, the closest competitor would be the Alienware M18 at US$2,900, adopted by the Acer Predator Helios 18 at US$3,000, when the Razer Blade 18 appears way overpriced at US$3,800. Also, all 3 competitors sport a little bit significantly less highly effective processors. Not to mention that the Strix G18 completely destroys all cell RTX 3080 Ti configurations (on average 25-30{b7c9e2c88beb1a84f22d94ab877a147f4adc4b3519717f3f957a0f34e16918d1} slower) that still sell for a lot more than US$3,000 now.&#13

A value this lower could be indicative of some compromises. Nevertheless, this does not seem to be to be the situation with the Strix G18. Even though some would argue that DDR5-4800 could be considerably slower than the DDR5-5600 modules, youtuber Dave2D statements that the change is not truly visible. The display screen is not bad at all, either. In point, Dave2D thinks this could be 1 of the ideal 18-inch 2560 x 1600 240 Hz IPS panel out there, as it is extremely dazzling at 489 nits, has respectable colour copy with 99{b7c9e2c88beb1a84f22d94ab877a147f4adc4b3519717f3f957a0f34e16918d1} DCI-P3 and also attributes a MUX change.&#13

Admittedly, there are a few shortcomings with this design, but nothing that could have an affect on the total effectiveness. Dave2D details out that biometrics are entirely missing here, and the 18-inch size together with the significant 330 W adapter may well detract from the portability component. For individuals with sensitive hearing, the Strix G18 could show some coil whine coming from the GPU VRM when less than load.&#13

The powerful 13-inch convertible is a pretty unique device which may be particularly interesting for gamers who are in the market for an extremely versatile and portable gaming laptop that can also be used as a tablet.

At last month’s CES 2023, Taiwanese PC manufacturer Asus announced the latest iteration of the pretty unique ROG Flow Z13, which basically is a more powerful and gaming-capable 13-inch alternative to the Microsoft Surface Pro. Although this RTX 4000 refresh appears to pack quite a punch in terms of GPU performance, deal hunters can now grab the current RTX 3050-equipped configuration of this convertible gaming laptop at a notable discount.

E-commerce giant Amazon is currently selling the 2022 Asus ROG Flow Z13, which is equipped with the Intel Core i7-12700H Alder Lake chip and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 dGPU, for US$1,299 including free shipping. The 13-inch gaming laptop further sports 16GB of soldered DDR5 memory, a 512GB SSD and a 120Hz FHD+ display. This deal for the Asus ROG Flow Z13 offers US$500 or 28 percent in savings in relation to the official list price of US$1,799, and it matches Amazon’s lowest price ever according to Camel’s price tracker.

We’ve reviewed a more powerful configuration of this 13-inch convertible gaming laptop back in 2021, and we were particularly impressed by the sturdy and well-made chassis as well as the colorful 16:10 touchscreen with a peak brightness of around 500 nits. We also liked the Asus ROG Flow Z13’s effective cooling system, which was surprisingly quiet considering the super portable design and the fact that our test sample was equipped with an RTX 3050 Ti. All in all, gamers who would like to use their gaming laptop as a tablet may want to take advantage of this noteworthy deal.

Budget-friendly Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3i laptop with RTX 3050 hits lowest price ever on Amazon

Budget-friendly Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3i laptop with RTX 3050 hits lowest price ever on Amazon
Amazon has a noteworthy deal for the RTX 3050-powered Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3i (Image: Lenovo)
Amazon has a noteworthy deal for the RTX 3050-powered Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3i (Image: Lenovo)

Lenovo’s entry-level gaming laptop with an RTX 3050 might be a decent choice for gamers who are on a rather tight budget and can live with the fact that the 120Hz display of the IdeaPad Gaming 3i is really dim and not particularly colorful.

Even with the emergence of Nvidia’s next-gen mobile GPUs, RTX 3050-powered machines will likely remain the cheapest options on the gaming notebook market for quite some time. Therefore, bargain hunters who are looking for a budget gaming laptop from Lenovo may want to take a look at Amazon’s current deal for the IdeaPad Gaming 3i.

The online retailer has put the cheapest base configuration of the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3i on sale for US$649, which constitutes a US$350 or 35 percent discount in relation to its MSRP, and also marks Amazon’s lowest price to date according to Camelcamelcamel. This gaming laptop is equipped with an Intel Core i5-12500H Alder Lake CPU, 8GB of upgradable DDR4 memory and a 512GB SSD. As already mentioned, the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 Gaming also sports a GeForce RTX 3050 dGPU with a TGP of 85 watts, which is the most budget-friendly RTX model in Nvidia’s Ampere lineup of mobile graphics cards.

As with many cheap gaming laptops, the most obvious weakness of the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 Gaming is its 15-inch 120Hz IPS display with a regular Full-HD resolution of 1920 by 1080. In our comprehensive review of a comparable AMD configuration, we found the screen to be pretty dim and also limited in terms of color reproduction. Nevertheless, this budget gaming laptop deal is a quite reasonable purchase in the sub-US$800 price range, in which practically all machines are equipped with a more or less poor display.
