There is a single model of gaming notebook I’ve encouraged to a few of mates, and which is the Asus Zephyrus G14. I tested 1 out for myself again in March 2022 for our Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 overview (opens in new tab) and even though that higher-end specification was not to my liking, every little thing else about that laptop computer pretty a great deal was. I outlined then that if Asus trapped a scaled-again GPU into the matter for a sub-$2,000, I would be all more than it.
Which is exactly what is actually on offer in excess of at Most effective Buy correct now. An Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 for just $1,100 (opens in new tab), with an AMD Radeon RX 6700S GPU within.
If I lived in the US, I might happily splash out on this notebook myself. That is a outstanding rate for this sort of specification and one particular which is hard to walk away from. Alas, I live in the Uk, so I can merely emphasize it for you great deal to reward from.
You will find a laundry record of matters I like about this notebook. Let’s begin with the all-mighty display, a 120Hz panel with a 2560 x 1600 resolution. Yep, that implies it really is a 16:10 factor ratio, which gobbles up some bezel area for even far more home on the desktop. Squished into the remaining bezel bordering the screen is a 720p webcam. Useful if you want to use this notebook for operate and enjoy.
The laptop’s chassis is also rather smooth. The design and style is up-to-day, unlike some other laptops on the market place that experience a bit much more dated, and although it is really fairly substantially all plastic it feels a lot strong. It is straightforward sufficient to get beneath the hood by removing the again panel, which implies upgrading the RAM or SSD is just not much too hard to do. Just bear in head that 50 {b7c9e2c88beb1a84f22d94ab877a147f4adc4b3519717f3f957a0f34e16918d1} the RAM sticks are in fact soldered onto the board, but you can find nevertheless one removeable DIMM slot in there. In this configuration you might be receiving 16GB of the hottest DDR5-4800 memory, which will definitely suffice for most use circumstances. You will find also a 1TB SSD, which is rather excellent likely but a few of terabytes would be a delicious up grade.
Proper, let’s discuss about the silicon, because this laptop computer has some quite up-to-day and powerful pieces inside it really worth speaking about. The CPU is AMD’s Ryzen 9 6900HS, an 8-main/16-thread CPU that’ll improve up to an outstanding 4.9GHz. That’s the exact same chip as in the G14 design I reviewed, which showed itself terrific for single-threaded functionality (crucial for frame level) and impressively capable for multithreaded function, far too.

The GPU in this equipment is AMD’s Radeon RX 6700S, which will come with 8GB of GDDR6 memory. It offers 4 much less Compute Units than the RX 6800S in the G14 I reviewed, which does strike gaming overall performance, but the notebook is all that much more cost-effective for it. The excellent matter is the RX 6700S is a little significantly less electric power hungry than its even larger sibling, at 100W, and in the end nevertheless has the functionality to feed the 120Hz display at its indigenous resolution. While you can also get a little bit more general performance by taking part in in a 16:9 aspect ratio to reduce the requires on your GPU—the resulting black bars aren’t so terrible.
Commonly, while, this is a truly terrific gaming laptop computer that I’ve appear to value much more and extra with every single new sale rate. At $1,100, it’s some thing of a steal, specially compared to the more recent RTX 40-collection gaming laptops (opens in new tab) that have arrived currently.
